The MALAMPA Provincial Government Council (MPGC) has requested the government for three additional Custom Land Management Office (CLMO) officers, to be stationed at the Lakatoro Office.

The Council has submitted letters to the Public Service Commission (PSC), CLMO and the Department of Local Authorities (DLO, following approval from its last extraordinary sitting.

MPGC stated in the letter that it has witnessed increasingly setbacks on land issues across communities in the recent past years and to date.

The Council stated that it is becoming a great concern which needs to be resolved quickly.

Councillor Alfred Roland said after giving the letters to the three government officers that, having additional CLMO officers will speed up the process of custom governance and identify the rightful land owners.

He said landowners from the province should understand that development is a focus of this current government.

“Development does not take place up in the sky, it takes place on land. For development to happen, land issues must first be settled,” he said.

Having additional CLMO officers will enable custom owners within the province to have the chance to seek justice through court if there is a delay, he added.

Addressing matters relating to land is one of the items on the campaign list for Councillor Roland.
